4 weeks for a healthy adult dog, 6 weeks for a sensitive, senior or pancreatitis-prone dog. Slower is safer.
A 12-24h fast is beneficial for healthy adult dogs and helps the switch. Avoid it for puppies, small breeds, frail seniors and dogs on medication.
Digestion times differ (raw ~4-6h, kibble ~8-12h). Prefer separate meals: kibble in the morning, raw in the evening.
A neutral white protein: chicken or turkey without skin, no bones for the first 3-4 days, then chicken necks (soft bones). Avoid beef, pork and fish at the start.
1-2 days of loose stools: normal. More than 48h, blood, repeated vomiting or lethargy: STOP and see a vet. Roll back one phase for 3-4 days before moving on.
